Non-Volatile setting of interface configuration

Hello everybody, is there a way to store the interface configuration permanetly. I have running LoWPAN interfaces but I use up to now the ifconfig command for setting ip-addresses / HW-addresses etc. What is the correct way to store the interface settings non-volatile? In Linux-style operating systems these settings are stored in a file or they are comming from a bootloader which stores these setting for example in an e2prom.

Best regards Bernhard
