I don't like how the context of comments is lost on the list and I prefer
githubs notification system. As it is I need to be on the look for
non-github messages in order not to miss them between all the "spam".
However I would like to know if any of this force feeding led to
participation that wouldn't have happened otherwise.
Btw: If anyone needs to have mailing list only access to the notifications
(i.e. doesn't want to use github) we could still offer this on a separate
list.

Dear rioters,
for some weeks I've activated the notifications from Github to be sent to
this
mailing list. The intentions are twofold:
1.) By default, notifications from Github on issues, commits, pull requests
etc. are only sent to the persons directly involved. Though, in many cases
the event might be interesting for more folks.
2.) For many people it is more convenient to discuss things on a
mailing list
than to use a web front end (i.e., Github).
However, these notifications clearly increase the amount of traffic on this
mailing list and I'm not sure if everybody appreciates that.
What's your opinion? Does the increased amount of traffic bother you or
do you
I’ve configured my filters accordingly so all the notifications are dumped into a seperate folder where I’m not notified about every new mail. But I would support Ludwig’s proposal of splitting the notifications into an extra mailing list.

Martin
Hi,
No, if we do this, it should be an extra mailing list. The commit mailing
list should be reserved to github commit notifications and commits that can
be merged git-am style.
okay, if nobody vetoes I'll switch the notifications to
notifications@riot-os.org by tomorrow evening.
Cheers,
Oleg

You young fools. Only when the last mailing list dries out, when the last IRC server is down, when the last development tool can only be used through Firefox 88+, you'll realize that you've joined the dark side.
I still prefer old-school mailing list discussions and patch submissions, but I won't veto, so go ahead.
I realize that pointing the notifications to a different list is only a small change.
And, don't you feel bettered when feeling the urge to switch back
