Dear Janna,
it appears the error you are facing is simply the lack of a mass storage hardware: For a file system, you need flash storage, which is AFAIK not available on the iotlab-m3 boards.
You should try a device that either has onboard flash or a flash card reader.

To complete the answer, the iotlab-m3 in itself *does* embed a flash memory (16MB), however, the driver and the mtd wrapper are missing. It should’t be super complicated to add, so if you’re interested on submitting a PR to add them we can guide you on the process.
