Release 2026.10 - Soft freeze in effect ❄

Dear RIOTers,

our next month’s release is right around the corner! @miri64 and I will be managing this one together, and propose the following dates for the 2026.10 release cycle:

  • 2026-10-07T22:00:00Z: soft feature freeze, for high impact features
  • 2026-10-14T22:00:00Z: hard feature freeze, for all features
  • 2026-10-28T23:00:00Z: Release date

Please let us know if you have features which are nearly there and you would really like to see in 2026.10! An updated riotdocker, unicoap client support and improved radio HAL and submac are already on our radar.

We are planning to revise the release specs, maybe by including newer boards, promoting some experimental tests to stable and/or deprecating existing tests. If you have any particular features you would like to have tested for releases, or have opinions on existing tests, please tell us in a reply to this thread.

Dear RIOTers,

Today it’s kinda chilly outside - the perfect day for a soft feature freeze! Please now settle down and refrain from merging large impact features until the release branch is branched off, or at least consult your friendly release managers @miri64 and myself before doing so.

Please add any outstanding PRs that you would still like to include before the hard feature freeze to the Github Milestone for this release so we can keep track of them.

As a gentle reminder: The planned date for the hard feature freeze is in one week from now on 2025-10-14T22:00:00Z.
