Dear rioters,
thanks to your great work the second release of RIOT has gone public
yesterday. I think that's a good moment to think about what we want to achieve
for the next release. Let's discuss this among topics on the next face-to-face
meeting.
As usual I created a doodle to find a date:

The meeting will take place at Freie Universität Berlin again, but remote
participation (with better audio this time) will be provided for those who
cannot attend the meeting personally.
There are also two boards on Trello collecting topics for the agenda and
features for the next release:

it seems that we're heading for a meeting the week after next. Please provide
your vote until tomorrow evening. Newcomers are explicitly welcome - per Skype
or in person.

Dear rioters,
the next RIOT developer meeting will take place in room K40 in the Institute
of Computer Science, Freie Universität Berlin (Takustraße 9, 14195 Berlin) on
Tuesday, February 4 at 4pm. If you plan to participate remotely, please send
me your Skype account in advance, so I can invite you to the conference call.
I'll provide a cake as promised in https://github.com/RIOT-OS/RIOT/pull/471
but remote participation in the cake might become difficult.
Cheers,
Oleg

everything's ready for the meeting in about 45 minutes. I'll invite the remote
participants via Skype. If anyone else is interested in joining the meeting
remotely without Skype, we'll also have an audio stream at
http://stream.riot-os.org:8000/live.ogg and you can contribute via our IRC
channel at #RIOT-OS on freenode.net (https://webchat.freenode.net/).
We're still looking for someone volunteering as minute taker and/or IRC
scriber.
Cheers,
Oleg
Hi,
One thing I forgot to mention concerning the local participants:
the room changed from K40 to 137.
Cheers,
Oleg
Hi All,
For the convenience of getting started with RIOT and better developing with it, I propose that RIOT community should have one or more officially tested & supported hardware platform(s). As RIOT is relatively new, there is no reason why we shouldn’t choose new hardware platforms or chips to better benefit the community.
For the choice of MCU, I highly recommend EnergyMicro’s EFM32 series which features very low-power modes that can greatly utilize RIOT’s tickless kernel. I must claim that I have no connection with EnergyMicro or Silabs. It’s simply the idea of picking up the most appropriate and state-of-the-art chip for RIOT.
For the RF part, I guess there are roughly two common categories: 2.4 GHz and Sub-1 GHz. There are some nice new chips too.
I’d like to hear you guys’ opinions about this idea.
Moreover, it’s possible for me to specifically design a very nice board/mote for RIOT community if it’s desired.
Regards,
I need to make myself clear that the fully supported platform I’m talking about should not just be tested with the microkernel. For practical usages of RIOT, the platform should be well tested and supported with both RIOT microkernel as well as its essential facilities like communication stack, encryption utilities, and more.
I highly recommend RIOT to have at least one great platform that is (1) fully functional for IoT applications and at the same time, (2) can better show RIOT’s distinct features among competing OSes.
Therefore, I propose to design a customized board/mote for RIOT since I don’t really see a best fit for such a purpose.
Please share your ideas so that we may have something different for RIOT.
Regards,
