This month, we will offer a workshop introducing Lingua Franca (LF), a polyglot coordination language designed for building deterministic, time-sensitive, and concurrent embedded systems. Participants will gain hands-on experience with reactor-uc, a lightweight C runtime optimised for resource-constrained microcontrollers, and learn how to integrate it with the RIOT-OS ecosystem. The workshop will cover the core principles of the reactor model of computation and its primitives, such as timers and logical time, which provide race-free concurrency. We will use the Adafruit Feather Sense and RIOT to build example applications and demonstrate how to effectively use and debug the reactor-uc runtime. By the end of the session, you will understand how to leverage LF’s formal timing semantics to build predictable, efficient, and maintainable firmware for the Internet of Things.
